The secret is out; investing in early stage food businesses can result in big social impact and big returns! According to this NY Times Report, VC firms in Silicon Valley invested $350M in food projects in 2012 - that is 7 times the amount invested in the industry in 2008. As social venture investors focused in the natural and organic food space, one might worry the amount of capital being brought to the table is abundant, that financing in this sector is getting crowded and that we’d be in heavy competition for access to deals.
